This section contains the writer’s literary creations and their translations into other languages. This material has been classified depending on the medium, format and content of the publications in the following types:

• Fictional (of works of the writer published in a single, or in several installments, or in other authors’ books, that is, anthologies or collections)

The filters in this section also allow you to search for the title, genre, place and date of publication. The search by title will return the works and texts/fragments containing the entered search criteria in their title.

This category provides relevant documentary information for the study of the writer's life and work: interviews, letters, lectures and speeches. The following categories have been established:

Other filters in this section allow you to search by title, date and place. The search by title will return the documents that contain the entered search criteria in the title. If a specific type is selected, specific fields can be used as filters: place where a letter was written, the location and date of an event in which Valle-Inclán dictated a lecture or speech, or the participating agent: interviewer, addressee or journalist.

This section includes the translations made by Valle-Inclán prior to 1936, among others, Eça de Queiroz’s El crimen del padre Amaro, La reliquia and El primo Basilio. Search filters are not required due to the small number of works.

This category contains the data of the people and organisations with which Valle-Inclán was directly or indirectly related in his literary, social, political or cultural activities. This section compiles the writer’s graphic images classified in three types:

Other filters in this section allow searches by dates and agents related to iconography that can carry out an active or a receiving action. The acting agent is the artist, that is, the caricaturist, photographer or portraitist, while the receiving agent is the person who is caricatured, photographed or painted together with Valle-Inclán. The selection of a specific type of image allows for an automatic search for a specific acting and/or receiving agent: caricaturist/caricatured, photographer/photographed or portraitist/painted.

This category contains the graphic material illustrating the writer’s work which was published both in books and in popular collections and periodical press. It has been typified as follows:

Other filters of the section also allow searches by date, by specific agent, in this case, illustrator, and by work title, a filter that enables the location of the illustrations and/or ornamental motifs of a specific work of Valle-Inclán’s.

All the advanced searches of the archivo digital valle-inclán provide publications that can be organised by type, agent or organisation, depending on the filter selected. The search by agent or organisation also includes the possibility of filtering by role or function, respectively.

Once the organisation mode of the retrieved results has been selected, the advanced search offers the possibility of performing textual searches in the filter with the term/s that admits both the introduction of wildcards (*/?) and literal text strings (“…”). The result of the search by content allows a visualisation of the required text marked in bold. It is also contextualised, with an indication of the page number of the source document.

This text search can also be combined with other consultation criteria: date and place of publication, type of publication, participating agents and organisations, and images included in these publications. Except date, all these filters offer search possibilities not available in simple navigation. Its functionalities are as follows:

The published between date filter allows searching by a certain date range. If the search is for a specific year, the same number should be used to indicate the initial and final year.

The published in place of publication filter allows you to add different places in a single search. For example, to search for the works of Valle-Inclán published in Argentina, you must enter the term «Argentina» in the search field and select the different cities that appear in the autocomplete search box while the filters editions and publications of texts/fragments will be marked in the results will be.

The results will be offers the possibility to filter by the document types you wish to search: editions, publications of texts/fragments, correspondence, interviews, public speeches and works translated by Valle-Inclán. These, in turn, offer other specific search criteria which may be combined with each other. For instance, in editions, as well as by type and genre (also available in the main search menu) the user has the opportunity to filter by work —to search for the editions of a specific work; by collection —to filter by a collection, particularly of the editions published in popular collections; by only Opera Omnia —to search for published editions in the author's collection of complete works; and by only other authors’ translations —to retrieve the editions of Valle-Inclán’s translated works, including filtering by language.

In publications of texts/fragments published in periodical press, it offers the possibility of searching not only by type and genre but also by work —it searches for the texts/fragments associated with a particular work; edition —it enables the search of texts/fragments included in a specific edition (e.g., collection of stories or poems); only foreword —it allows a search for the prologues of the writer; only anthologies —it localizes the texts or fragments of works included in anthologies or collected works; only articles —it recovers press articles, including filtering by set of press articles to locate those published in a certain set of press articles; and only other authors’ translations —it allows to search for texts/fragments translated from the writer's works, published in periodical press or in other authors’ books and even filtered by a specific language.

In correspondence and public speeches as well as filtering by type, it is possible to locate letters, lectures or speeches, published only in periodical press, in another author's book, or both at the same time.

In interviews the user can filter by the publication format: in own book (Valle-Inclán’s editions), in periodical press or in another author's book.

The works translated by Valle-Inclán filter allows you to search for the translations, made by Valle-Inclán, of other people's works.

The last part of the Advanced Search menu filters by the agents or organisations that participate in any type of publication. It also offers the possibility of searching for a specific person or role —in the case of participating agents— and for a given organisation or function —in the case of participating organisations. It is even possible to search for more than one agent or organisation using the option add agent/organisation.

Finally, the filter images can locate any type of publication that includes images, and even select a specific type: illustrations, ornamental motifs, caricatures, photographs or portraits. Moreover, the filter where to find searches for the name of the agent, whose image appears in a publication, i.e., the caricatured, photographed or painted agent, which is usually Ramón del Valle-Inclán or his family members*.

*Note: to identify the remaining agents that appear next to Valle-Inclán in images —caricatures, photographs or portraits— not included in the author's publications, it is necessary to look for Agents and Organisations, in the main menu section, and filter by the caricatured, photographed or painted roles.
